Its most important attraction is the highest skyscraper of Paris called “Tour Montparnasse”. The building offers an outlook terrace on the top, with a breathtaking view over Paris sea of houses.

The district is characterized by uncharitable buildings from the 60′s, and some few green backyards which are used by artists. Montparnasse has an artistic history as well. Artists like Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Marc Chagall, and Henri Matisse worked in Chemin du Montparnasse on the Avenue du Maine. Their favourite pubs are still existing: La Coupole, Closerie des Lilas, Le Dome oder La Rotonde.

There is also a noticeable cemetery in Montparnasse. Cimetiere du Montparnasse is the last resting place for personalities like the Samuel Beckett, Charles Baudelaire, and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Metro 4, 6, 12, 13: Montparnasse Bienvenüe
Metro 6: Edgar Quinet

The best examples of Gothic architecture can be admired in this precious part of Paris. One of those sensations is the world famous church known as “Notre Dame”.

Another intersting sight in Ile de la Cite are the fortified towers of the Conciergerie, as well as Sainte-Chapelle.

Ile de la Cite has a mediaeval and active character. The population of the district is bourgeois and intellectual oriented. There are a lot of publishers and booksellers as well. Of course also the amount of coffee houses is amazing. The district is overcrowded with tourists.

In former time Marais was the aristocratic district of Paris. Today the place is known for its Jewish population, the homosexual scene, and a popular destination for a trendy and active nightlife.

Marais impresses the visitor by its rich and diversified architecture. This comes from the past of the district. The aristocratic history left a lot of wonderful palaces, which serve as museums today.

© Alexandre Fagundes De Fagundes | Dreamstime.com

Place de Vosges, which is the former kings square, is probably the most beautiful square of Paris. Some talented street musicians guarantee a good atmosphere during the whole year.

The Eastern part of Marais is the location of the Opera Bastille. The nighlife around Opera Bastille is very active. Someone who is searching for a good place in Paris to party, would find his true satisfaction there.

The centre of the Parisian district Sentier is the street called “Rue du Sentier”. The place is known as former cloth manufacturer district around and along the Rue du Sentier.

There are still some cloth manufacturer left, who are working for the haute couture, but of course not in the same volume as in its glory past.

The attraction of Sentier is the square “Place de Victoires” with its elegant boutiques and glamorous shopping passages from the 19th century. This documents the glory past of the whole district.

Sentier is also the home of world famous shopping malls like the one from Lafayette or Printemps. But there is not only shopping in Sentier. Also banks and insurance companies have chosen the location of Sentier as perfect place for their French headquarters.

The view of the top from “Gallery Lafayette”, the glamorous shopping mall in the Parisian district of Sentier, over the roofs of the district.

This is one of the most important reasons that there are usually a lot of rich and elegant dressed people in the cafes and restaurants in this area.

Besides shopping and commerce, even art does not come off badly. Opera Ganier is located in this Parisian district, and in the Northern part of the district the visitor can find the famous artist and amusenent quarter called “Montmartre”. Montmatre can be found in the north of Sentier on a hill.
