The character of the early Gothic basilica Saint Denis was the role model and guidepost for all the other French buildings which were erected in this certain architectural style.
The most exciting attractions of Saint Denis are the tombs of the kings in the crypt under the church. For many centuries it was a holy tradition of the French kings to receive a tomb in Saint Denis. More than 70 of them can be seen under the holy building.
