Montparnasse Paris

Category: Paris District – admin – 7:24 am

Montparnasse is a district on the left shore of the Seine river. Its most important attraction is the highest skyscraper of Paris called “Tour Montparnasse”. The building offers an outlook terrace on the top, with a breathtaking view over Paris sea of houses.

The district is characterized by uncharitable buildings from the 60’s, and some few green backyards which are used by artists. Montparnasse has an artistic history as well. Artists like Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Marc Chagall, and Henri Matisse worked in Chemin du Montparnasse on the Avenue du Maine. Their favourite pubs are still existing: La Coupole, Closerie des Lilas, Le Dome oder La Rotonde.

There is also a noticeable cemetery in Montparnasse. Cimetiere du Montparnasse is the last resting place for personalities like the Samuel Beckett, Charles Baudelaire, and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Metro 4, 6, 12, 13: Montparnasse Bienvenüe
