Le Invalides was built under the reign of King Ludwig XIV. He wanted to offer a home to all of his soldiers who returned from the wars as disabled men. Les Invalides is the second biggest building in Paris which was built under Ludwig XIV behind the castle of Versailles.
Les Invalides offered space for 3.000 disabled soldiers. They were working in their own workshops, and able to lead a satisfied life without begging and stealing.

The Dom Church with its golden roof is the highlight of the whole facility. The church is also the place of Napoleons gravestone. There is even an army museum nearby. Maybe one of the biggest army museums in the whole world.
